CAE Canadian Engineering Grand Challenges Webinar

Organizer: The Canadian Academy of Engineering

The Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) has a mission to demonstrate leadership in the responsible application of engineering knowledge for the benefit of Canadians. The CAE, in line with this mission, has acknowledged the six key areas that Engineering Deans Canada believes will best position Canada to make a substantial difference over the next decade namely:
-Resilient infrastructure
-Access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy
-Access to safe water in all communities
-Inclusive, safe, and sustainable cities
-Inclusive and sustainable industrialization
-Access to affordable and inclusive STEM education

This list, known as the Canadian Engineering Grand Challenges (CEGCs), is based on the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which address a broad range of socio-economic and environmental issues across many different sectors. This webinar will be focused on explaining the importance of the CEGCs and how these broad but discrete concepts came to be chosen as the lens through which Canadian engineering should view the SDGs. It will also discuss the role that current and future engineers will play in achieving these goals while contributing to the overarching task of climate change adaptation and mitigation. This would be followed by a panel discussion and an interactive session with the audience to answer questions.
